World Suicide Prevention Day

Thursday the 10th of September is World Suicide Prevention Day.

World Suicide Prevention Day is an awareness day to provide worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides. Every year organisations and communities around the world come together to raise awareness of how we can create a world where fewer people die by suicide.

This year we have seen significantly less social contact than usual and it is vital that if you or someone you know is struggling with their mental health that you reach out.

It isn't always easy to speak to friends or family that is why charities and organisations are there to offer support to those who are feeling suicidal and to those who have been impacted by losing a loved one to suicide.

Two of these organisations are :

The Samaritans, you can visit their website here: http://www.samaritans.org or you can call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year on 116 123

Shining a Light on Suicide, you can visit their website here: http://www.shiningalightonsuicide.org.uk

Bury resident, Rebecca Jackson spoke to me on the impact suicide has had on her life, what we can do to prevent losing more lives and the 'The Quilt Project' which has been set up to help those who have been affected by suicide. She commented at the unveiling 'The Speak Their Name Greater Manchester Suicide Memorial Quilt is our story, those of us left behind. It's a legacy and a catalyst for change'.

Please remember that it is okay to not be okay, always be kind and help is there if you need it.
