James Daly asks for House of Commons debate to support volunteers & community groups for their work

Thursday, 9 June, 2022

Bury North MP, James Daly, today asked the Leader of the House of Commons to make time for a debate to celebrate the vital work volunteers do across Bury, Ramsbottom, Tottington and beyond.

Mr Daly’s question follows Volunteers Week, which is held every year between 1st and 7th June. It is a celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering and is supported by many organisations and charities to showcase, highlight and celebrate the impact and contribution volunteering makes in our communities.

Today in the House of Commons, Mr Daly highlighted the work done by Gem, Sheridan and Liz and the team of the Fishpool, Goshen, Redvales and Springs Community Hub. In his question to the Leader, Mr Daly said

“[they] are changing people’s lives every day, and there is a debate to be had in this House regarding how the state can support individuals such as Gem, Sheridan and, Liz, many others in my constituency and throughout the country to continue with their brilliant work.”

Over the course of Volunteers Week, Mr Daly visited many community groups, speaking to many fantastic people who freely give up their time to improve the lives of people across Bury, Ramsbottom, Tottington and our villages.

Speaking after his Commons Question, Mr Daly commented:

“I will continue to highlight the amazing work which all those in the voluntary sector do in Bury, Ramsbottom & Tottington.”

“Tomorrow, I am delighted to be attending the awards ceremony at Greenmount Cricket Club for D-Caff. A brilliant community organisation that has been recognised in the Honours List with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.”

Volunteers Week runs annually between 1st and 7th June; to find out more information, you can visit https://volunteersweek.org/
