I know that for many residents road maintenance and repairs is a big local priority, so I'm pleased to see the Government announce this £500m fund to improve the state of local roads, which is the second instalment of a £2.5bn Pothole Fund.
Here in Bury, the GMCA is set to receive £51 million to improve the roads with £15.5 million to be spent exclusively on fixing potholes.
With potholes estimated to cause as many as 1 in 10 mechanical failures on UK roads and costing motorists an estimated £730 million every year, it is important that this issue, that affects so many of us, is addressed.
