Expanding access to skills and learning plus FOUR new schools

My Plan - Schools
  • Secured £7 million of Government Funding for Bury College’s STEM Innovation Centre and successfully lobbied to grant Bury College Institute of Technology Status to widen opportunities for young and adult learners in our town.
  • Continue my campaign to rebuild The Derby High School and provide the facilities our children deserve.
  • Keep the pressure on Bury Council to improve on its inadequate OFSTED rating  – ensuring children are no longer at risk and special educational needs provision is given the priority it requires.
  • Work with the Government and other partners to deliver a £30 million high skills research centre providing a gateway to new local well-paid jobs for Bury residents.

Making sure that every child in Bury, Ramsbottom and Tottington has the opportunity to succeed through world class education. I was Chair of Governors at a local school for 7 years and we received two outstanding OFTED reports. As Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups for Youth Employment and Nursery Schools I am working hard to ensure all our kids have the best start in life and access to a wide range of training opportunities.

As COVID restrictions are relaxed I will be running jobs and apprenticeships fairs and working with local and regional employers to bring more opportunities for young people in Bury.

I have campaigned to bring Institute of Technology funding to Bury College, bringing millions of pounds of further investment in skills training on top of the millions of pounds already secured to support Bury residents in getting good, well-paid jobs.

I am working with the government to bring a youth hub to our town to support young people in all aspects of their life and working with Bury Council to deliver a SEND hub ensuring no matter your background you will have access to the support and skills training you need.
